Recorra beat LondonEnergy to win 2024 Waste World Cup

A team from Recorra has won the 2024 Waste World Cup, after a 1-0 victory over a side representing LondonEnergy. A selection of photos can be found below, with a link to the full picture set at the bottom of the page.

Organised by letsrecycle.com and celebrating its biggest year yet, the six-a-side tournament welcomed 44 mixed-gender teams from across the waste sector to Beaconsfield Rugby Club, Buckinghamshire, on 28 June.

After qualifying through their respective groups and three knockout games, the stage was set for the final as indisputably the tournament’s best teams collided. But, Recorra managed to beat LondonEnergy 1-0 in extra time.

Winners

Other trophies up for grabs included the Vase, Decater, Plate, Jug. Teams qualified for these competitions based on their standing in the group stage.

Biffa Leicester saw off enfinium team 2 to take home the Vase, the second-tier competition, with a 2-1 win.

Shred Station picked up the Decanter with a victory over Suez Manchester, while Biffa Subcon and Reactive bagged the Plate following a victory over Eunomia.

The Jug was won by Suez Midlands after they defeated Suez team 4, with a 2-1 win.

Brett Manning won the “Chip in the Truck”, sponsored by Hillend Engineering.

The sponsors for the event this year were Contenur, Cromwell, URM and Hillend Engineering.

Next year’s tournament will also take place at Beaconsfield Rugby Club and will be held on 27 June 2025, and you can register your interest here.
