RDF Conference 2023 returns at pivotal time for industry

Some of the largest names in the industry will be speaking at the RDF Conference 2023 next week (23 November) and what is a pivotal time for the industry.

With an upcoming emissions trading scheme plus other legislation on the horizon, the event is not to be missed for companies operating in the refuse derived fuel (RDF) sector.

Taking place at the Congress Centre in London, the RDF Conference will bring together industry leaders and experts to explore key policy changes, market dynamics, technological innovations, and the future landscape of waste management.

With an insightful agenda curated by notable figures in the field, attendees can expect a day filled with enriching discussions, networking opportunities, and the unveiling of groundbreaking insights.

Session One: Key Policy Changes 

The conference kicks off with a welcome address from Joshua Doherty, editor of Letsrecycle.com, and Andy Jones, chair of the RDF Industry Group (RDFIG) & managing director of Totus Environmental.

Following this, Rob Scarpello, senior advisor at the Environment Agency, will delve into the changes to waste shipment processes and charges. The morning continues with Robert Corijn of Attero B.V. exploring EU-wide residual treatment capacity, while Fabio Poretti from CEWEP discusses opportunities and threats to an EU-wide residual waste treatment system.

The session concludes with a dynamic Q&A. 

Session Two: The WDF Market 

Bethany Ledingham, secretariat to the RDFIG & principal consultant at Eunomia, chairs the second session, focusing on the WDF market. Andy Jones returns to share insights on the EU-wide WDF market, followed by international perspectives from Denmark, Italy, and Spain.

The session closes with Andrew Whyatt of Holcim discussing the future of WDF in cement markets in Europe, followed by an engaging Q&A. 

Session Three: New and Changing Technologies 

Adrian Irvine, vice chair of RDFIG & WTE business development manager at Re-Gen Waste, leads the exploration of new technologies in waste management. Presentations cover advances in residual waste pre-treatment and sorting, waste to DME technology, and sustainable logistics. A Q&A session follows, allowing attendees to delve deeper into the innovations shaping the industry. 

Session Four: The Future 

Joshua Doherty returns to chair the final session, where Chris Jonas, director at Tolvik Consulting, explores the UK WDF market as an importing nation. The conference concludes with a Q&A session and closing remarks from the chair.
