Qualifiers named for Waste World Cup 2005

Organisers of the 2005 Waste World Cup have announced the 28 teams that will challenge defending champions Biffa in this year's industry football tournament.

Teams from the private, public and community sectors will take part in the prestigious six-aside, mixed-gender football tournament – which takes place at University College Northampton on September 9.

Qualifiers include some of the biggest waste management companies operating in the UK, the major industry trade associations as well as representatives of local and central government.

Announcing the teams today, Organising Committee president Dr Margaret Bates said: “This year should see some quality competition with some major organisations looking to take the trophy away from last year's winners, Biffa. As in previous years the tournament will emphasise the importance of fair play, maintaining its reputation as the premier sporting fixture for the waste and recycling sector.”
