However, both yesterday (June 10) and today (June 11), both the Northern Line and Jubilee line have also been operating a relatively normal service, meaning that visitors can change onto and from the DLR onto those lines, making ExCeL easily accessible from a number of destinations.
There are also partial services running on all other tube lines, with the exception of the Circle and Waterloo and City lines.
The tube lines are running in addition to 'blue and white buses” which have been arranged by CIWM to collect delegates form major underground stations including Paddington, Victoria and St Pancras. There will be a limited number of support staff in place near the bus stops to guide people towards the planned pick up locations and more information is displayed at the end of this story.
A spokesman for CIWM said: “We had a huge turnout at the exhibition yesterday and we are very pleased that public transport links to the event are also running today. Our advice to delegates is that getting to ExCeL is easier than you think.”
Ferry service
Those visitors who can get to the central London area or Waterloo station are also able to use a Transport for London ferry service from Waterloo/London Eye – Westminster – Tower Bridge which is to run every 10 minutes between 07:00-10:00 and 15:00-20:00 on both main strike days. From Tower Bridge there is easy access to the Docklands Light Railway to reach the Excel Centre. Buses and the Docklands Light Railway will run as usual. The Docklands Light Railway can also be accessed on the National Rail network at Greenwich and Stratford.
The Futuresource exhibition is a joint event from CIWM and the Environmental Services Association (ESA) and incorporates the CIWM conference and exhibition formerly held in Torbay.
letsrecycle.com's annual Recycling and Waste Forum is running aside the Futuresource event on Wednesday and Thursday, with seminars on topics ranging from WEEE & Batteries to Organics and Paper, Plastics & Materials. The popular Pub Quiz, with Roy Walker as compere, was held yesterday evening (June 10).
London Mayor
Speaking earlier this week, London Mayor Boris Johnson, who attended Futuresource yesterday, said: “I am determined to do as much as is humanly possible to ease the journeys of the millions of Londoners whose lives may be disrupted if strike action takes place.
'The plans we are setting out call for a team effort over the next few days by everyone in this great city to ensure we keep the Capital running. The myriad of organisations and individuals that have already agreed to lay on free services, lead cycle rides, drive extra services and marshal shared taxi ranks exemplifies the united approach we will need.”
