PRN money helps fund can sorter for Cornwall Paper Co

The Cornwall Paper Company is celebrating the installation of a new purpose-built can sorting machine for the separation of aluminium and steel cans at its Redruth materials recycling facility.

The machine was designed by the company and developed and installed by Colin White Services of Glastonbury, Somerset.

Some funding for the equipment came from Corus Steel Packaging Recycling, with funds raised through the sale of packaging recovery notes, and Alcan Aluminium Can Recycling. It incorporates an overband magnet supplied by West Midlands-based Magnapower.

Alan Smith, managing director of Cornwall Paper Co, said: “We are delighted that the end-users, in sponsoring this machine, have shown such strong support for our company and for our plans to increase can recycling in Cornwall.”

The company handles about 500 tonnes per week of recyclable materials arising from its own collection services and delivered in by commerce, industry and local authorities.

Once sorted the cans go to Corus in South Wales and to Alcan in Warrington for recycling.
