Presona baler helps waste company on its way to zero waste

Waste management company Premier Waste has reported that it is diverting 98.6% of all waste from landfill following an overhaul of its baling equipment.

Established for the past 25 years, Birmingham-based Premier Waste specialises in the collection and treatment of waste that cannot be reused or recycled from construction and demolition sites across the UK.

The company installed a Presona baler to help convert 200 tonnes of waste material previously sent to landfill into Solid Recovered Fuel (SRF) for the UK’s construction Industry as well as the European market.

Mark Jones, operations manager at Premier Waste said: “We looked at a number of balers that could produce SRF and Presona was the ‘go-to’ brand. Presona understood our requirements – in the UK SRF is supplied loose but in Europe it needs to be baled.”

After discussing requirements, Presona recommended its LP50 EHF2 ‘string tie’ baler to Premier Waste. Capable of handling 24 tonnes per hour and processing SRF, this baler would also be able to tie the SRF bales for the European market.

According to Premier Waste, the introduction of the baler has reduced its operating costs.

FireVU combines visual smoke and flame detection

FireVu – the solutions arm of AD Network Video – has unveiled its new Multi Detector product, which identifies and analyse smoke and heat patterns in recycling plants.

The detector combines ‘visual smoke and flame detection’ and ‘thermophile’ technologies, identifying smoke patterns across a video image.

The unit also detects radiated heat, which alerts recycling businesses early to potential fire danger.

It will help distinguish potential triggers for false alarms, while steam and dust clouds can be excluded as a danger point by setting heat criteria above temperatures likely to be encountered.

Pauline Norstrom, chief operating officer of AD Group, said: “The FireVu Multi Detector is a remarkable three in one solution combining smoke, flame and thermal detection in a single product in order to solve detection problems which cannot be effectively addressed otherwise by any other detection technology on the market.”

The 5 series (economy) wheeled loaders include four new models featuring engines fitted with rail technology and diesel particle filter to diminish noise pollution in internal waste handling facilities.

Meanwhile, the 8 series (premium) wheeled loaders, formerly in the 80 series, comprises eight models with large bucket capacity and high-performance hydraulic systems.

In the telehander range, Kramer has introduced two compact models in the 804 and 2205.As well as increased payload and stacking height capacity, the machines retain the company’s Smart Handling system to retract the boom when lowered.

Boughton Engineering completes vehicle approvals

Boughton Engineering has successfully achieved whole vehicle type approval covering its range of hook loaders and skip loaders.

The loader manufacturer completed the approval programme for all its mainstream carrier chassis type vehicles, including DAF, Mercedes-Benz, Renault, Scania and Volvo.

It requires a range of body fitting and equipment compliance, including side guards, rear under-run protection, coupling systems where fitted and other safety features.

Steve Price, sales and marketing director for Skan Group – which acquired Boughton Engineering in 2011 -said: “The conduct of this process has really underlined the added value of Boughton’s in-house and UK-based engineering capability.

“We have some first class engineers who have worked on this programme and we have been able to resolve any issues quickly and effectively, working in close collaboration with chassis manufacturers’ own teams.”

The company claims that the Eyeball camera is set to improve the viewing range of all vehicles. Part of the VBV-3XXC series of cameras, it is intended to protect vulnerable road users from collisions and prevent any vehicle damage. The Cameras are suitable for side, front, rear and internal applications.

The Camera has 5 LEDs for low light performance and an integrated microphone which allows audio capability, to allow the driver to hear people in addition to seeing them.
