Hazardous waste management specialist Augean Plc has appointed Edward Pigg from Biffa Waste Services to head up the development of its Waste Network Division.

The company says the appointment has been made with a view to growing its share in the hazardous waste management market.

Prior to joining Biffa Waste Services, where he was head of the companys Integrated Waste Management Division, Mr Pigg worked in a number of business-to-business sales and commercial management roles at Lombard Vehicle Management, The AA and MG Rover Group.

Commenting on the appointment, Mr Pigg said: The hazardous waste business is probably the fastest moving sector in the waste industry. This is largely driven by regulation, but also because we have an outstanding range of customers who need a partner for their waste management strategy.

Chair elected for single Welsh environmental body

The Welsh Government has appointed Professor Peter Matthews as the first chairman of its single environmental body to manage natural resources in Wales.

Professor Matthews, whose appointment took effect on August 1, will oversee the single body incorporating Environment Agency Wales, Countryside Council for Wales and Forestry Commission Wales.

In previous roles, Professor Matthews has also been chair of the Society for the Environment, deputy managing director of Anglian Water International, president of the European Water Association, and chair of the Northern Ireland Authority for Utility Regulation.

Chris Mills, director, Environment Agency Wales said: “Im delighted that the Welsh Government has appointed a chair to the Board of the new Single Body. Professor Peter Matthews brings with him a vast amount of experience and the necessary skills to lead the Single Body and the important work it has ahead of it, to develop a sustainable country for the people of Wales and make best use of its natural resources.”

Account managers added to Eco composting team

Dorset based organics recycling firm Eco Sustainable Solutions has appointed two account managers to sell products including animal bedding, compost and mulch.

Mel Western, an economics graduate from the University of Southampton and keen horsewoman, will specialise in the companys equestrian products, including wood fibre bedding.

Sally Spencer, a former student at Queen Elizabeths school in Wimborne, will be dealing with a range of Ecos products including compost, soil and mulch.

Founded in 1994, Eco now employs 50 people and has an annual turnover of 10 million.

Based at the Renewable Energy Centre in Parley, Dorset, Eco owns and operates the UKs leading purpose-built site for organics recycling and renewable energy generation, processing over 250,000 tonnes of organic material each year.

General manager joins SITA UKs South-East team

Waste and recycling firm SITA UK has appointed Andrew Mann as general manager of its South-East processing team.

Mr Mann will lead the 379-strong team responsible for running the companys waste processing business in the south east, including facilities at Mitcham, Ridham Dock and Barking.

He has experience in sales and management roles, having previously been managing director at SCA Packaging New Hythe where he had full responsibility for the paper mill operations.

Jon Scanlon, SITA UKs chief operating officer for processing, said: Andrew and the south-east team will be fundamental in delivering our ambitious plans for the region. As well as managing our existing business in the region, Andrew and the team will play a key role in the development of new facilities.

PyroPure appoints sales and marketing director

Specialist pyrolysis technology company PyroPure has announced the appointment of Bob Kane as its sales and marketing director.

Reporting directly to chief executive Andrew Hamilton, Mr Kane will be responsible for the sales and marketing of Hampshire-based PyroPures on-site waste management unit, which is due to launch commercially this autumn.

Mr Kane has previously worked in the semiconductor business and held a number of engineering management and executive sales and marketing management positions with leading, global technology companies, such as Motorola, Eaton Corporation and Applied Materials Inc.

Commenting on the appointment, Mr Hamilton said: “Bob has a wealth of experience in both healthcare and engineering which is directly relevant to our business. He joins us at a very exciting time in our development as we prepare to launch our product into the market and I am certain that he will make a very significant contribution to the team.
