Nigel Mattravers joins Golder Associates

Chartered civil engineer and waste manager Mr Mattravers has more than 38 year’s experience in the industry in both the UK and Hong Kong.

With experience in planning, design, project management and financing waste management projects, he will assist Golders on waste both in the UK and internationally.

He joins Golders from financial advisers Grant Thornton where he was waste industry specialist and he has previously worked at infrastructure company the Mouchel Group.

Commenting on his new role, Mr Mattravers said: “I am really excited to be joining Golder, a firm of the highest international reputation focused on managing the Earth’s resources”.

Chartered surveyor Andrew Short joins Grundon board

Grundon Waste Management has invited its estates director Andrew Short to join its board as executive director.

Mr Short will be the director responsible for the Aggregates Division, which operates five quarries supplying aggregate and specialist decorative materials.

He joins the board as part of Grundon’s ongoing review of its board structure, but will continue with his duties in charge of the firm’s estates, engineering and project management from its Beenham offices.

The 45-year-old is a chartered surveyor with more than 20 years practical experience in the minerals and waste sectors, having previously worked at the likes of Gerald Eve, GVA Grimley and Voaden Sandbrook in the UK.

Commenting on the appointment, Grundon chief executive Richard Skehens said: “We look forward to benefitting from his practical experience, his pragmatic approach to problem solving and his uncompromising attitude to quality control across all areas of the business.”

SLR appoints waste and renewables consultant

SLR Consulting has appointed Daniel Borisewitz as a senior consultant at the companys Edinburgh office.

Mr Borisewitz will work on the environmental consultancys energy projects, from waste derived fuels to other types of renewable energy production.

He has previously worked as a bioenergy, heat and microgeneration policy manager at Scottish Renewables and has experience with renewable technology, from heat from wood stoves to large incinerators.

He said: “In my previous role I had frequent interaction with SLR through a stakeholder engagement group and was always impressed with the scope of knowledge within the company. I was looking to move away from policy work into a more technical role so it was great when the opportunity arose to join the company.”

Series of appointments at AEA

Sustainability consultant AEA has announced a series of appointments in the UK.

Hannah Sheldon Jones, formerly of Covanta, will support technologies and tendering for the waste management sector in the UK.

Working with local authorities through WRAP and Zero Waste Scotland, newly appointed Steve Rymill will seek to expand on AEAs waste collection models. Joining from Hyder, Mariam Ajadi, will also help to work on WRAP funded projects.

Simon Aplin has joined as team leader for AEAs WRAP funded business development team and will work with businesses and waste management companies which need help with planning, feedstock security and technology buying.

Also joining from Hyder, Jess Twemlow will work for AEA in Scotland to deliver projects on resource efficiency in the NHS and expand on its work with local authorities.

Changes at WYG’s planning and environment team

Global engineering consultancy, the WYG Group, has announced new appointments and promotions to its planning and environment team in the UK.

Graeme Smart has been appointed as a principal ecologist at WYG in Newcastle, after 12 years experience in ecology, landfill and housing development for the likes of the Environment Agency and the Highways Authority.

After joining WYG earlier this year with experience in town and country planning, Max Plotnek has now been promoted to associate planner.
