The on-line system is part of Biffpack's revamped website which now includes a secure “members only” area as well as an online calculator for working out the packaging obligation of a business.
The scheme is forecasting higher PRN prices than last year and says that “although the shortfall in some materials may not be as great as first estimated, obligated companies should be prepared to see 20-30 per tonne for most materials and up to 80 for plastic over the year.”
Biffpack says that it adds nothing to the cost of the PRN's purchased to meet the scheme's obligation.
Scheme manager James Butler said that last year “this ensured that full revenues pass to reprocessors who have to justify to the Agency how that money is spent, as well as providing members with consistently competitive compliance costs.”
The average cost of a PRN for within Biffpack last year (weighted to reflect obligations in each material) was 9.20.
