Organics group to celebrate 25 years

The composting and wider organics sector’s trade group will be celebrating a 25th anniversary at its annual conference and gala dinner next month.

Originally the Composting Association, the group now covers a wider range of organics materials

Founded as the Composting Association in 1995 the organisation went on in 2008 to become the Association for Organics Recycling as it had become involved in advice and policy work on food waste.

In 2010 members voted to become the Organics Recycling Group as part of the Renewable Energy Association, and are now known as REA Organics.

At the REA Organics 25th anniversary event, on 12 March 2020 at Chesford Grange, Kenilworth, there will be a look ahead to the next 25 years as well as more of a short term focus on the impacts of the Resources and Waste Strategy.

Resource

Jeremy Jacobs, who previously led the Composting Association and then became technical director of the REA when the association became part of REA, said: “We’re looking forward to a great conference this year and the gala dinner.  We were founded in 1995 by Dr Jane Gilbert and she will be at the March event. We will be celebrating the success of an industry that has always valued a resource which the past was landfilled.

The event will be on 12 March at Chesford Grange hotel near Kenilworth

“With food waste and green waste collections, we are helping to enhance natural capital and improve soil quality and soil health.”

Mandatory

Mr Jacobs told letsrecycle.com that REA Organics welcomed the fact that the Strategy is going to be mandating “free garden waste collections and mandatory food waste collections.”

The Conference is titled ‘Lifting the lid on the future of organics recycling’ . More details available at:  REA Organics conference and dinner.
