The death in the waste management and recycling sector was a factor in the recent decision by the HSE to take the unusual step of issuing a reminder to the industry about the need to check health and safety measures (see letsrecycle.com story).
The London Ambulance Service told letsrecycle.com that it was called at 1.40pm on 13 June “to reports of an incident in Twelve Trees Crescent in East London.”
The Service noted: “We sent a paramedic in a fast car and our Hazardous Area Response Team to the scene. The first paramedic arrived in less than seven minutes. Sadly the patient died at the scene.”
Further details of the incident have not been disclosed.
Sadness
A spokesman for Bywaters said: “Bywaters can confirm with great sadness that an operative at our Lea Riverside site had a fatal accident on 13 June 2017, we are working with the ongoing police and Health and Safety Executive investigation.”
He added: “Our thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues.”
