The WTS is located at Grundon’s depot in St Philip’s Marsh – an industrial estate on the southern edge of central Bristol.
It is the latest addition to the company’s network of similar facilities across the south of England.
Grundon has occupied the depot since it expanded into the city from London in 2019.
John Phelps, Grundon’s Bristol Depot Manager, said: “We’re delighted to see this exciting new project becoming operational.
“Our increased regional handling capacity will mean improved efficiency and cost for our customers, as well as lower mileage and reduced environmental impact for processing their waste.”
The site is over four acres in size and formerly solely operated as an HGV depot next to Grundon’s Bristol’s offices.
Just over a third of the total site is now taken up by the new WTS, which is fully operation as of last Tuesday (12 May 2026).
The site has a capacity of 50,000 tonnes per annum of commercial and industrial waste for bulking on site and is open to third party tipping.
In the coming months, the waste management company will recruit new staff to join the 20 team members that already work on site, including transfer station operatives, machine drivers and a weighbridge clerk.
Phelps added: “The facility will offer significant sustainability benefits for the entire Bristol business community. It’s a proud moment for the team here and we are looking forward to further establishing our presence in the city region.
“We are of course delighted to be investing in the local area and to be creating yet more employment opportunities here.”
Grundon Waste Management was founded in London in 1929 by Stephen Grundon and his father.
Grundon currently operates across southern England, handling commercial, hazardous, clinical and recycling waste services for thousands of businesses.
The company remains family-run and is now led by third-generation chairman Neil Grundon.
