Onyx wins five year contract for Harlow Council

Harlow Council in Essex has awarded Onyx a five year waste management contract worth over 1 million annually from April 1 2002. The company will take over the contract from the direct labour organisation.

The contract includes recycling activities as well as refuse and bulky waste collection from the 35,000 domestic properties in the district and a trade waste service. Onyx will also be managing Harlow’s recycling work, and aiming to increase the district’s recycling rate from 10% to 18% by 2005/6. A kerbside paper recycling collection scheme, a green waste weekend amenity collection service and the management of the district’s recycling bring banks form part of the recycling initiatives.

Councillor Alan Jones, Leader of Harlow Council, said: “We are determined to provide local people with the best value services and to deliver continual service improvement. I am confident that our decision to appoint Onyx will enable us to deliver this with refuse.”

Liz Pullen, Onyx regional director added, “We are looking forward to starting our five year partnership with Harlow Council and we are committed to delivering a first class service.”
