One-day packaging waste conference announced

Financial pressures, new policies and higher targets are among the issues to be addressed at a special one-day conference on packaging waste.

The ‘Fresh Horizons for Packaging Waste' event will take place at the Wellcome Collection in London on September 30 and will explore recent policy developments, future targets and possible ways forward.

Speakers include Judicaelle Hammond, head of producer responsibility at Defra, who will be talking about the government's waste policy review and packaging policy and Greg Wood, packaging programme manager at WRAP, who will discuss the Courtauld Commitment 2.

Presentations will also be made by Adrian Hawkes, director of policy at Valpak, Andy Doran, national manager for aluminium recycling giant Novelis and Dick Searle, chief executive of the Packaging Federation.

Organised by letsrecycle.com, the conference will be of interest to a wide range of figures involved with packaging including: packaging producers, compliance schemes, obligated businesses, local authorities, reprocessors, consultants and waste management firms.

With the government still working on its response to the consultation on implementing the packaging strategy, including new targets for the next 10 years, it comes at a critical time for the sector.
