The five-year extension came after the council considered bids for the contract from other companies,

The council has been working with Abitibi-Consolidated Recycling Europe since 1989, when the company was known as Cheshire Recycling. The first kerbside recycling scheme, a paper-only collection, was launched in 1996 and expanded in 2003 to take in glass, cans and textiles.
The multi-materials service, which went borough-wide in 2004, now calls on more than 23,000 households every fortnight, using bags and boxes to collect materials.
The service collects about 2,500 tonnes of recyclable material every year, more than half of which is paper.
Aspirational
Richard Dobbs, North Warwickshire's assistant director streetscape, said: “Warwickshire has an aspirational recycling rate target across the county of 40-45% by 2010. Within North Warwickshire, where we’re well ahead of current government targets, we already enjoy around 30% and are looking forward, over the next five years, to working closely with our partners at Abitibi-Consolidated Recycling Europe to build on this by improving and expanding the service to local householders.”
Paper collected by Abitibi-Consolidated Recycling Europe will be sent to the Bridgewater mill at Ellesmere Port, Cheshire, for reprocessing into 100% recycled newsprint. Other materials will be sent to the company's reprocessing partners within the End User Consortium, which Abitibi leads.

Commenting for Abitibi-Consolidated Recycling Europe, managing director Ron Humphreys said: “North Warwickshire is once again demonstrating its commitment to continuous improvement, reflected in its recycling rate performance.
“We are delighted that the Council has chosen to renew its partnership with the company,” Mr Humphreys added.
