Shrewsbury-based NTM-GB has provided Cae Post with a three-axle, 26 tonne KGH with an FK pod on a Daf chassis. The vehicle is designed to take three different recyclables at once, with commingled material taken at the rear and a separate pod at the front of the vehicle. The vehicle is also fitted with a VWS weighing system on the bin lifts and on both the front pod and the rear of the truck, operatives of the vehicle can then log details of the materials fractions collected onto an on board computer. Cae Post has a long-term contract with Powys county council waste management to operate a commercial materials recycling facility (MRF) at Trewern near Welshpool and operates kerbside household and trade recycling collections.

Richard Marsh, Cae Post general manager, said: We wanted a vehicle to handle three separate material streams paper and card, plastics and cans, and glass in a single pass for our trade customers. NTM has helped us come up with the optimum solution to tackle the problem of bulky card and plastic on the same round.

Lancashire-based waste management firm ISM has taken order of what are said to be the first two Volvo FMX in the UK as part of its expansion plans.

Currently in the process of expanding its operations at Kenyon Street in Ramsbottom, ISM intends to use the Volvo FMX vehicles to haul waste to landfill. Both are equipped with Volvos 13-litre engine rated at 460hp and feature manual gearboxes and heavy duty T-Ride rear suspension. The addition of the two trucks brings the number of vehicles in the ISM fleet up to 18, all of which are Volvo vehicles. ISM said the fleet is moving to an all-rigid policy as the amount of bulk waste transported longer distances to landfill continues to decline, it claims this is due in large measure to the increasing amount of material ISM recover for recycling.

ISM director, John Allen Jr, said: As a family-owned and managed company, our philosophy is to buy the best we can afford. It may be dearer initially, but weve never had a problem selling a Volvo at the end of its life with us. There is a ready market for our trucks. The company has also recently purchased its first Volvo loading shovel, an L45F.

Organics recycling specialist New Earth Solutions has purchased five JCB Wastemasters for operations at its mechanical biological treatment (MBT) facility at Cotesbach in Leicestershire.

The company has bought the machines – a JCB JS220 Materials Handler, a JCB 541-70 Loadall telescopic handler, a JCB 180 skid steer loader and two JCB 426 wheeled loading shovels – to perform waste rehandling duties at its new Cotesbach MBT plant near Lutterworth. New Earth opened the 15 million, 50,000 tonne-a-year capacity plant in October 2010 to treat household waste from Leicestershire county council over the next five-to-seven years (see letsrecycle.com story).

Graham Roberts, New Earth Solutions site manager at Cotesbach, said: We assessed the available equipment on the market and the JCB Wastemaster package met our requirements for performance, service support and cost. The machines are performing well and contributing to the ambitious overall efficiency targets at this brand new site.

Dennis Eagle said it was delighted to have had its vehicles incorporated into Blabys fleet and said it had received great feedback from the council since commencing operations.

Martin Bennett, servicing and fleet manager at Blaby district council, said: We are very happy with the vehicles we purchased last year so it was a natural choice to use Dennis Eagle again. The latest vehicles were chosen because of the manoeuvrability and payload benefits they offer. Once again we have been impressed with the excellent customer service Dennis Eagle provides.
