Two roles advertised for Advisory Committee on Packaging
The Committee, which represents interests from across the packaging supply chain, is seeking replacements for Helene Roberts of Marks & Spencer and Brian MacMillan of Allied Glass, who are set to step down in March. The ACP was restructured in February 2010 by former waste and recycling minister Dan Norris, withconsultant Bob Lisney as chair (see letsrecycle.com story).

Envar appoints Arthur Ready as managing director
Mr Ready joins the firm from waste management firm Greenstar Environmental, where he held the position of group commercial manager. He will be based at the companys headquarters near St Ives. In his new position, Mr Ready will be charged with helping to drive the future growth of Envar in both its recycling and composting businesses. Prior to joining Greenstar in 2006, Mr Ready had worked at R U Recycling, a business that he started in 2002. Envar is a member of the ADAS Group of companies, which hasprovided environmental and agricultural consultancy services for 60 years.
Mr Ready said: “I am delighted to be joining Envar and excited about the potential for growth in this business which incorporates a unique blend of technical expertise and innovation, augmented by a culture of excellence in service delivery.

Pennon interim report praises Viridor performance
An interim financial performance update published by the Pennon Group has praised the performance of its waste arm Viridor and said it expects the company to deliver a full year of growth in profits before tax.
In the statement, which covers the first half of 2010/11, Pennon says it expects Viridor to continue to perform to expectations despite the significant impact on operations caused by severe weather in December 2010. Furthermore, it claims growth will also be achieved by Viridor following the successful planning appeals for plants with combined capacity totalling 600,000 tonnes-a-year at Ardley in Oxfordshire and Dunbar in East Lothian.
The company also expects further growth through acquisitions.In its statement,Pennon said: In line with Viridor’s strategy of making infill acquisitions in key strategic areas, the company has acquired a recycling company in Somerset for 7.4 million and two smaller recycling companies in the Manchester area for a total of 2.5 million.

Envac welcomes Kazakh dignitaries to Wembley site
The dignitaries undertook the visit to exploreto assess best practice in order to help boost the countrys recycling levels. In a bid to understand how automated vacuum waste systems can benefit densely populated developments, Almaz Kalmykov, director of the waste management department at the countrys Ministry of Environmental Protection, requested to visit Wembley Citys Forum House. The 4,000 unit development was the first Envac system to be installed in the UK in 2007 and was officially launched in December 2009 (see letsrecycle.com story).

Fercell to hold open day for waste reduction testing facility
Kent-based Fercell Engineering Group is holding an open day at its first UK waste technology testing facility between March 7 and March 12 2011.
The company, which specialises in recycling plant equipment, holds the sole UK rights to the German WEIMA technology and will showcase new machinery technologies as well as the latest in shredder and briquetter machines. The company held an Open Week Event in 2010, and due to positive feedback, intends to hold two more this year.
A spokesman for Fercell said: These events are open to prospective and existing customers alike, providing a fertile platform to discuss one-on-one new business opportunities with our team of engineers and sales people. During the event visitors are welcome to evaluate shredders, briquetters and foam compaction machines by conducting trials using their own materials, welcome to return home the results.
