Composting courses on offer at Rainham

Composting courses are being offered by the London Remade Eco-Organics Project at its sites in Rainham and Pitsea in Essex.

The Rainham centralised composting site, run by Cleanaway, is currently handling 50,000 tonnes of green waste in windrows a year. Planning applications have recently been submitted for the construction of in-vessel composters at Rainham and these are due for installation in mid-2004.

Since November 2002 over 300 people have been trained in composting by the Eco-Organics Project including more than 100 who have attended courses recognised by the Chartered Institute of Waste Management. The CIWM accredited courses “Composting Introduction, Practical and Operational Lessons” and “In-vessel Composting – and the Animal By-products Regulation” entitle attendees to either one full day towards their graduate structured training programme or six hours continued professional development.
