New plastics plant sees Baylis eligible to issue PRNs

Berkshire based plastic recycler Baylis recycling has been awarded Environment Agency accreditation for plastics reprocessing, writes Adam Hooker.

The accreditation follows Baylis' installation of a new plastics recycling facility at is site in Slough valued at 3 million. The site features a washing and flaking plant and compound lines with a capacity to recycle 15,000 tonnes of plastic per annum.

The accreditation means that Baylis will be able to offer PRNs for its reprocessed plastic. The PRN money will then be put back into the business to improve facilities.

As part of the same investment strategy Baylis has also installed a secure paper shredding Vecoplan machine capable of processing up to five tonnes per hour and a plastic, paper and cardboard baling facility with a capacity of eight tonnes per hour.

Managing director, Chris Baylis, said: “Our new plant supports our objective to provide a one-stop quality service to the private and public sectors. New legislative demands from both Westminster and Brussels are moving recycling rapidly up the management agenda, and our industry must respond with more effective solutions.”

Compound line

The company will be able to offer PRNs from March onwards when the compound line is added to the site, although the washing and flaking plant is fully operational already.

The Slough site will add to the company's facilities at Birmingham, Leeds, Scotland and two in London, this is the first accredited site for Baylis.

Mr Baylis said: “The PRN money will be used to facilitate new production as well as developing new and existing sites.”
