New College Swindon appoints Hills Waste Solutions

New College Swindon has announced the appointment of Hills Waste Solutions as its waste and recycling contractor.

The three-year deal was announced following what was described as a “competitive” tender process.

Darren John, sales manager at Swindon-based Hills Waste Solutions, said: “We are delighted to have been successful in our tender for the New College Swindon contract.

“Having beaten national businesses in the tender process, it’s a fantastic local business success story. This deal brings two of Swindon’s most respected organisations together in a working partnership.”

Daniel Bedford, director of estates and facilities at New College Swindon, added: “We were impressed with Hills’ hands-on, partnership approach – which includes a dedicated account manager, open access to recycling data, and the social value they can add with work experience opportunities for some of our students.

“Working with a Swindon-based business also helps us to reduce the carbon impact of waste and recycling operations, so it’s great to have Hills on board.”

New College is a further and higher education institution in Swindon. It has two main campuses alongside an Adult Learning Centre in the town centre.

Steve Willis, assistant manager at Hills Waste Solutions’ Purton depot, said: “To mobilise the New College Swindon contract, we have delivered a suite of new bins and containers to the North Star and Queens Drive campuses.

“This has included everything from skips and rear end loaders through to internal bins to help segregate recycling and food waste bins to support the training kitchen.”

Tula Welsh, key account manager at Hills Waste Solutions, added: “New College Swindon’s Facilities team will also benefit from access to Hills’ customer portal which gives them real time data about their recycling, recovery and reuse rates. For organisations serious about sustainability, the transparency of our service really seems to resonate.”
