Mr Lamont has been in the industry for over thirty years and has run his environment and waste management consultancy for the past twenty. He also lectures on the MSc in Waste Management at Paisley University and is Chair of Scottish Centre for the Chartered Institution of Wastes.

Before setting up his business, he was an engineering services manager at Dundee Council, which is now one of the few places in the UK to have already met its 2005/06 landfill diversion targets for biodegradable waste.
Mr Lamont said that this was in part due to incineration and the kerbside collection system put in place 12 years ago, when he was at the council.
He will be opening the CIWM Annual Conference and Exhibition in Torbay tomorrow (see letsrecycle.com story) and has said that his main priority as president is to help the waste management industry gain more respect.
“Waste has never been something that generates respect unfortunately. So this is my first priority – to make people see that this is not a mickey mouse industry and that we do have a great deal of expertise,” he said.
