Executive Director Barbara Herridge said: “We are delighted that the DETR has awarded Waste Watch the full grant that we applied for. This will be used to deliver Waste Watch's core work providing information, education, research and policy work in support of sustainable waste management and waste reduction, reuse and recycling.
And, a grant of 71,680 has been awarded to the National Waste Awareness Initiative which will be launched in October this year.
Ms Herridge, who also heads up the initiative, said: “Funding for the National Waste Awareness Initiative will go towards the
launch of the Initiative's programme to promote local authority best
practice in communicating waste issues which is scheduled for October.
This follows the Initiative's research project into what messages work with householders and the best way to deliver them.
The funding for the Community Recycling Network, which is based in Bristol, is under the CRN's BUILD project which involves strengthening the national and regional networks”.
Targets
Joe Papineschi, CRN's business development manager, said the organisation was delighted to receive the funding. “The money will be spent in increasing CRN's capacity to help the community sector in delivering the waste strategy targets. This is part of a three year project which will include matching funds and we also have a bid in to the National Lottery Charities Board.”
The funding will help CRN provide extra services to community groups throughout the UK including advice and training and increased capacity for the brokerage of collected materials.
Announcing the awards, environment minister, Michael Meacher, said: “115 projects aimed at promoting sustainable development and improving our quality of life will today receive funding from the Environmental Action Fund.”
“The Government's are you doing your bit? campaign stresses that we all need to play a part to protect our environment. These projects will help educate and enable individuals of all ages to play their part in protecting the planet for future generations.”
