The report has been prepared by the Environment, Transport and Regional Affairs Committee and is expected to look closely at several issues and in particular the government’s waste strategy.
Committee members have also shown keen interest in energy from waste and recycling.
Kerbside collections, with possible support for community based projects, are expected to be supported by the committee.
The committee has also taken a keen interest in the Landfill Tax Credits Scheme and has been told of concerns that some observers have about the current system. Accordingly it may recommend changes to the scheme although this will be without any direct input into its report by the two main waste organisation who both support the system as it stands.
The two are the Environmental Services Association and the Institute of Waste Management both of whom have been angered by the committee’s decision not to invite them to give evidence.
