Bin manufacturer MGB Plastics is set to deliver over a quarter of a million wheeled bins to households around the country to encourage recycling during the festive period.
The roll-out of 250,000 bins is part of the Rotherham-based companys tender with councils in London, Wigan and Wiltshire which hope to encourage householders to reduce their waste and increase their recycling with the bins.
The contract will see MGB manufacture and deliver 120,000 blue lidded 240 litre bins to Wiltshire council, 70,000 green bins to Waltham Forest council and a further 60,000 brown bins to Wigan council. The roll-out is hoped to be completed within the next few weeks.
Conor Surgue, general manager at MGB Plastics, said: As a business, our aim is to work with local authorities and waste management companies across the UK to increase the recycling rates and we are really excited about the important role our products will play.
These bins will play a crucial role in helping to increase the recycling rates in the area and reducing the amount of waste going to landfill and safeguard the environment, he added.
The roll-out follows MGBs successful tender to become Sercos preferred waste and recycling container supplier. The contract will see them produce and supply 100,000 bins in the coming months to homes in Sandwell in the West Midlands.

In July 2011 the manufacturer invested a six figure sum (see letsrecycle.com story) in machinery increasing the manufacturing capacity of its 50,000 square metre plant on Balbot Hall Industrial Estate, Rotherham, to in excess of 1 million bins a year. The investment allowed MGB to purchase a second tool for manufacturing 240 litre wheeled bins as well as a tool to allow 180 litre bins to be produced at the factory.
As well as manufacturing wheeled bins and kitchen caddies MGB has an in-house distribution team delivering over 4 million bins every year to households throughout the UK.
