The transaction includes McCarthy Marland’s waste transfer station in Wantage, along with its associated collection operations.
The Oxfordshire operations transferred to Smiths on 18 September 2026.
Alex Marland, Director of McCarthy Marland, said the company was “delighted” to have found a new home for the operations with Smiths.
He commented: “We are delighted to have found such a strong new home for our Oxfordshire operations in Smiths, a well-established family business with an excellent reputation in the industry.
“The sale allows us to focus on our core markets which are serviced by our Bristol, Tetbury (Gloucestershire) and Somerton (Somerset) locations, where we see significant opportunities for continued growth.”
Marland said that the company wanted to thank its Wantage team and customers for their support.
He added: “We are confident that both will be in excellent hands with Smiths and wish everyone involved every success for the future.”
Smiths has been operating since 1982 in the South West and Wales, offering services in demolition, construction and asbestos removal, transport and plant hire, and skip and commercial waste management.
Paul Smith, Director of Smiths (Gloucester) Limited, said the acquisition would strengthen the company’s presence in Oxfordshire and surrounding areas.

McCarthy Marland
McCarthy Marland is an independent, fully licensed waste management company which has provided waste recycling services to Bristol and surrounding areas for more than 20 years.
The company provides skip hire, roll-on roll-off, grab hire, wheelie bins and other waste management services across Bristol, Bath, Gloucestershire and Somerset.
Following the sale, McCarthy Marland will focus on its operations in Bristol, Tetbury and Somerton.
The company said it sees “significant opportunities for continued growth” across these core markets.
McCarthy Marland was advised by Quercus International on the transaction.
