The deal sees Material Change take over the operation of Organic Recycling’s 56,000 tonnes-per-year capacity open windrow composting site at Crowland near Peterborough.

With the completion of the Organic Recycling acquisition, Material Change has increased its reach across the Midlands and East of England, now operating eight sites. Other sites operated by Material Change are in the Northamptonshire, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Suffolk areas.

The firm has a total processing capacity of over 210,000 tonnes per year and runs a fleet of shredding and screening equipment. If the AD facility is built, it will be the third in Material Change’s portfolio.
Much of the material treated at the sites comes from local authority contracts.
In a joint statement, Ed Bastow, managing director of Material Change and Andrew Riddington, managing director of Organic Recycling said: “The purchase of this site is a tremendous step forward for both companies. The development of food waste processing and anaerobic digestion plants is a strategic aim for both parties and this new site allows us to offer well placed facilities to deliver various green and food waste mix options to Local Authorities and businesses in the region.
“The acquisition delivers a significant boost to Material Change’s operational capabilities in the region and is good news for both companies and customers alike. Our current suppliers and customers will not see any change in daily operation in the beginning, however when the new Anaerobic Digester has been built, we will be able to provide a wider range of services to local food waste industries and we both look forward to these opportunities.”
