Magistrates fined J Parker Dutch Bulbs Limited 6,000 after hearing how it failed to comply with the Producer Responsibility Obligations (Packaging Waste) Regulations designed to reduce the amount of packaging waste that goes to landfill.
The company, with registered offices at Chester Road, Old Trafford, Manchester, deals with mail order supplies of bulbs and other garden plants.
J Parker Dutch Bulbs pleaded guilty to three offences under the Producer Responsibility Obligations for failing to comply with the regulations between 1997 and 2000. The company was fined 2,000 for each year it failed to take reasonable steps to recover and recycle packaging waste. As well as being fined, the company was ordered to pay costs of 721.58 to the Environment Agency, which brought the prosecution.
David Bradley, prosecuting for the Agency, told Trafford Magistrates’ Court how the company, saved between 5,000 and 7,000 by not complying with the regulations.
