London co-ordinator appointed for community recyclers

Community waste projects in London are to get their own recycling co-ordinator, Ben Metz, who has been appointed to the London Community Recycling Network (LCRN).

The London network is an offshoot of the Community Recycling Network based in Bristol and comes as community recycling groups continue to expand. The groups are said to be the largest providers of kerbside collection contracts in the UK.

Mr Metz will to manage and develop LCRN'S role as an umbrella organisation for community groups involved in recycling, waste minimisation and re-use in the capital. He said: “I am absolutely delighted as it gives me a chance to focus on an area I feel passionately about.”

In his new role Mr Metz will draw on several years' experience in community business support and regeneration.
Under his management it is intended that LCRN will provide a voice for community businesses and not-for-profit organisations involved in sustainable waste management in London.

Joe Papineschi, CRN's business manager said: “We were
particularly impressed with Ben's experience in business support
and regeneration – he has been advising and mentoring community
enterprises for almost two years and has a lot of experience of the
London regeneration scene where he has established good
contacts. He also has a lot of energy and ideas.

“LCRN gives a real voice to community waste management
projects in London and can take advantage of the huge
opportunities presented by the London Assembly, the Mayor,
London Remade and the other regeneration projects which are
involved in recycling.”

The Community Recycling Network is based at Trelawny House, Surrey Street, Bristol, BS2 8PS, tel: 0117 942 0142.
