Hosted by letsrecycle.com in partnership with Resource London, the seventh annual London Conference will hear from policy makers, waste officers and behavioural analysts on efforts to improve recycling performance across London.
Issues including population growth and churn, declining public funding, differences in collection regimes, language and logistical barriers are all thought to have had an impact on waste services in the capital.
And, data published by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) in December suggests that London’s household recycling rate has fallen year-on-year since 2012/13 – when it fell from 34% to around 32% in 2015/16.
‘Reinvigorate’
At the 2017 London Conference delegates will hear from policy makers and those delivering services on the need to ‘reinvigorate’ recycling in the capital – which was identified as an aim by the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan in his successful Mayoral campaign.
Presentations will look at how London’s boroughs are working together to deliver consistency across the capital and offer advice on going ‘back to basics’ can help to deliver a successful recycling campaign.
Confirmed speakers include Helen Bird, recycling adviser at WRAP and Beverley Simonson of resource London.
The conference will also feature case studies on reducing contamination and improving material quality and how effective waste service services can be delivered in the rented sector.
