Linpac reports sales success as councils look to the kerbside

Linpac Environmental reports that it has begun 2002 on a sales high, with orders for more than 100,000 kerbside collection boxes received in the last three months of 2001.

Orders from Welwyn Hatfield Council (35,000 boxes), Tunbridge Wells Borough Council (43,000 boxes) and Carlisle County Council (17,000 boxes), are among seven local authority tenders won by the Wiltshire-based company.

Linpac Environmental’s Kerbside Box product manager Paul Abel said he is encouraged by the surge in activity. “Renewed interest in kerbside collection from local authorities is a very positive sign for 2002.”

Mr Abel continued: “With seven tenders won and a number of others in the pipeline, we expect to see a marked increase in the number of kerbside collection initiatives operating in the UK next year. Local authorities are clearly taking notice of renewed government warnings on the penalties associated with not reaching recycling targets and many are looking at ways in which they can do their bit on a local level.”

The collection boxes are manufactured by Linpac from plastics equivalent to 37 one litre plastic drinks bottles per box gathered directly from the UK domestic waste stream.

The company says that the tenders won represent a mixture of expanding and fledgling schemes, collecting plastics, paper, glass and aluminium. And, it highlights that the councils are requiring boxes to carry printed messages.
