Mr Letwin, who took up the post in May this year following two years as shadow chancellor, will be speaking at the glittering awards luncheon at the Savoy on October 19 when presentations will be made to winners in nine categories.

The importance of the environment has been highlighted in recent months by Mr Letwin who has spoken of the need to consider technical solutions, such as kerbside recycling, alongside the advantages to the environment that this brings.
He argued that people “would care more for the environment if they believed it would offer them beauty. For those lucky enough to live among beauty, that was one of the most precious things of their lives. For those deprived of it, that deprivation was one of the most terrible things of their lives.”
Entries are still invited for the awards with judging taking place later this month. Application forms can be downloaded at www.letsrecycle.com/awards and entrants need to supply 500 words or more about a project or individual involved in a recycling and waste management initiative.
