The company, owned by French utilities giant Suez, is re-structuring from its current regional offices into two new divisions – collection and treatment – based in Maidenhead. The changes are to be introduced during the year, for completion by December.
Commenting on the re-structuring, Mr Hjort said: “The UK waste market is a critical one for Suez, our parent company, and we need to ensure we best reflect the future needs of our various customers. By making these changes SITA UK will be better placed to take full advantage of the opportunities that will emerge in this fast changing market.”
SITA UK is also moving to a new management line-up as part of the re-structuring. Marek Gordon, formerly corporate development director, will head up the new collection division as chief operating officer, while chief operating officer for the treatment division will be Peter Gillatt, previously regional director for the North.
There will be some redundancies, a SITA spokeswoman confirmed, but figures have not yet been finalised. She said the company will “keep employees updated” and said “some offices will be shutting”, although details are not yet available.
SITA has already placed its former head office, The Pickeridge, in leafy Buckinghamshire, up for sale at an asking price of 2.25 million. Adverts for the 190 acre property, including a “period manor house”, “three derelict terraced cottages” and “redundant farm buildings with conversion potential” have appeared in the press. A spokesperson for property services firm FPD Savills told letsrecycle.com they have already had plenty of interest for the estate.
