New roles at Eco Sustainable Solutions

The Dorset-based firm has promoted Justin Dampney to site manager after working with Eco for several years as the business development director for the firms ComfyBed animal bedding range. Alison Budd, who is returning from maternity leave, has also been promoted to office manager. She joined the firm in 2005 as a sales account manager.

The firm has also hired Charlotte Haswell as sales account handler. Ms Haswell previously worked as a store manager for Monsoon Accessorize in London.
Founded in 1994, Eco employs 50 people and has an annual turnover of 10 million. The company owns and operates a purpose-built site for organics recycling and renewable energy generation, currently processing 250,000 tonnes of organic material each year across four facilities.

Weine Wiqvist made new MWE president

Weine Wiqvist has been appointed as the new president of Municipal Waste Europe the association representing municipalities responsible for waste management and publicly owned organisations in Europe.

Mr Wiqvist, who comes from Sweden, was appointed following recent elections for new board members. He has been part of MWE since its inception.

The appointment has been welcomed by the Local Authority Recycling Advisory Committee (LARAC) which said: Weine has been part of Municipal Waste Europe since its inception and brings a wealth of knowledge on European Waste and the workings of the European Comission to the organisation. Both his and the appointment of two new vice presidents from Denmark and France can do nothing but strenghthen the position of MWE in its role within European Waste Management.

Fairport Containers expands team to drive growth

Commercial waste container provider Fairport Containers has expanded its team with the appointment of Mike Salmon as national sales manager.

Mr Salmon has more than 15 years experiences in sales, working in the sectors of construction equipment and waste recycling machinery. He has been appointed to help win new customers throughout the UK.

Mr Salmon said: I was keen to join a company which was growing and expanding and Fairport Containers very much fits the bill. This is an exciting time for me to be joining the company and I am looking forward to playing a part in its growth. One of the major elements I will be focusing on will be driving sales of container lids and spare parts, as we are able to offer an unrivalled selection of products in these lines.

Ian Ledson joins CellMark as UK commercial director

Swedish-based materials supplier Cellmark has appointed Ian Ledson to the role of commercial director UK and Ireland for its growing energy to waste division.

CellMark supplies chemicals, metals, packaging, paper and pulp to a range of markets across the globe. It also has a dedicated energy team which trades in biomass used for creating energy. Group sales exceeding three billion US dollars and handling over five million tonnes of product per year through its 70 offices and facilities worldwide. Mr Ledson joins the Swedish-based company from gasification technology developer Energos / BioGen Power. Prior to this, he had worked for six years at SITA UK in various senior development roles.

Christoffer Eliasson, vice president of CellMark Waste to Energy, said: Ians experience and knowledge of the UK waste market will be pivotal in establishing CellMark as one of the leading fuel providers for the existing and future Waste to Energy Industry.

Mike Matthews promoted at Leavesley International

ELV and metal recycling firm Leavesley International has promoted Mike Matthews to general manager after six years with the Staffordshire-based firm.

The firm recycles vehicles, machinery and metals and also sells used vehicles to a wide range of markets. Mr Matthews joined the firm in September 2007 where he was employed as a mobile engineer with Case dealership and progressed on to Leavesley International on the close of Case dealership almost a year later. During this time he has held several managerial roles within the organisation.

Mike Hassall appointed group MD at Wardell Armstrong

Waste management and renewable energy consultancy Wardell Armstrong has appointed Mike Hassall as group managing director.

Mr Hassall took over from Colin Brown who will continue as a director and become non-executive chairman. Mr Hassall has a 32-year long career with the firm, having joined in 1981 as a graduate engineer with a degree in engineering geology and geotechnics. He has worked his way up through the ranks. His past roles have included acting finance director, regional director and UK managing director.
