In a statement, the High Wycombe-based waste management company explained that the PHS Wastetech commercial waste business being acquired currently has a turnover of 25m and specialises in general dry waste services. It added: The business is highly complementary to Biffa, supporting its strategy of growing its market share, enabling it to enhance services and realise profitable synergies.
PHS Wastetech, according to Biffa, provides a nationwide commercial waste management service across a 12,000 strong customer base which it says will geographically complement Biffas strong operational platform. The acquisition brings with it four new operating locations for Biffa.
Biffa said that the acquisition of PHS Wastetech will enhance volumes and allow it to consolidate more waste into recycling and energy-from-waste facilities, leading to growth in its energy and processing operations.
Ian Wakelin, Biffa chief executive, said: Todays acquisition is another step forward in our strategy to grow market share and enhance our leading industrial and commercial services. We will swiftly integrate PHS Wastetech into Biffas national infrastructure and excellent customer service platform, further strengthening our position as the UKs leading integrated waste management company.
The acquisition process is expected to be completed in late February/early March and Biffa and Wastetech said there would be no disruption to services during this period.
The PHS Wastetech deal comes after Biffa acquired the solid waste division of Shanks earlier this month.
PHS Wastetech based in Lancing, West Sussex, provides a nationwide commercial waste management service and operates a number of local waste depots throughout the UK.
