Large turn-out in sight for BIR convention

For the first time in BIR history, representatives from 44 countries have confirmed their attendance at the next BIR Convention in Madrid. They include Australia, Austria, Belgium, China, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, Uruguay, USA and the UK.

Although BIR’s bi-annual conventions, and particularly the Spring General Assembly, have always attracted a large number of nationalities, this year’s result is very exceptional and represents nearly 90% of the total number of BIR member countries. BIR Director General Francis Veys comments: “I am extremely pleased that our Spring Convention has succeeded in gathering so many countries. This clearly confirms BIR’s mission to act as world recycling federation and that our Conventions are THE international business forum which should be attended by any businessperson interested and involved in the international recycling industries.”

With over 700 registered delegates, the Madrid Convention is set to be the most successful BIR Conventions since BIR’s restructuring in 1995. A very attractive selection of guest speakers, a variety of workshops on important issues and an appealing social programme will create the perfect backdrop for successful trading sessions and business networking.

In parallel to the first day of the BIR Convention, which will deal with all non-metal materials, BIR organises an international Symposium on Global Steel and Ferrous Recycling, together with the American trade association ISRI.
