Larac appoints new chair from January

Larac, the local authority recycling officers organisation in England and Wales, announced yesterday that its vice-chair Janet Westmoreland will take over as chair in January.

The recycling officers organisation held its annual general meeting yesterday in Harrogate as part of its 2001 conference when it announced that Ms Westmoreland of Kirklees Metropolitan Council will replace Paul Deakin as chair.

Ms Westmoreland, who has held a training role within Larac in the past, will formally take over on January 8 and another executive meeting will be held on January 16 when it is likely that two vice-chairs will appointed.

Mr Deakin, principal waste management officer at North Dorset District Council, has been with North Dorset for 12 years who was elected as chair of LARAC in June. Mr Deakin is leaving North Dorset following a restructuring within the authority.
