Ideas and individuals on LARAC 2019 Awards shortlist
Finalists and winners of the 2018 LARAC Awards

Local authorities and recycling officers with a wide variety of entries have been shortlisted as finalists for the annual LARAC Celebration Awards event on the evening of 2 October.

Categories in the awards this year include “Outstanding Contribution” and “Best New Idea” – with the latter category seeing ideas for WEEE repair, garden waste, and a Welsh Government programme battling it out for the title.

“We would like to thank everyone who entered – we wish we could have shortlisted everyone!”

Carole Taylor, chair of LARAC

The 2019 shortlist was compiled by a panel of judges from across the sector which was chaired by Carole Taylor, chair of LARAC. Also on the panel were: Lee Marshall, CEO of LARAC;  Gurbaksh Badhan, head of waste management at Buckinghamshire county council; Hilary Tanner, adviser at the Local Government Association; Sally Wilson, local authority manager at WRAP; and Steve Eminton, editor of letsrecycle.com.

Innovative

Carole Taylor said that the judges had been pleased that the entries showed  “the great work and innovative approaches local authorities and their partners are taking to providing recycling, waste and street scene services”.

Mrs Taylor added that: “The high standard of applications made it difficult for the judges to pick a shortlist and we would like to thank everyone who entered – we wish we could have shortlisted everyone!”

Tickets are still available for the Awards Ceremony and for the two day LARAC conference and workshop programme. This year the conference and Awards are being held at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole close to the Birmingham NEC.
