LARAC 2016 Awards finalists announced

Finalists for the Local Authority Recycling Advisory Committee (LARAC) 2016 Celebration Awards have been unveiled, with judges praising the high standard of entries received this year.

Now in its eighth year, the awards recognise the achievements and hard work of local authority recycling officers and their colleagues over the past 12 months.

Spanning six categories, awards include the Best Communications Campaign, Best Partnership Award, Team of the Year, Best Waste Minisation or Prevention Project, Best New Idea and the coveted Recycling Officer of the Year Award.

Officers from Rochdale, Warwickshire and Westminster have all been shortlisted for the individual prize. Aberdeen, Calderdale, Solihull and Durham councils were among the finalists in other categories.

Challenges

Commenting on the 2016 finalists, Lee Marshall, chief executive of LARAC, said: “Yet again the judging panel was hugely impressed by the innovative ideas and hard work that recycling officers continue to demonstrate on a daily basis – despite some tough challenges throughout the year.

“This year we had some really positive entries, many of which show the vital job that council officers are doing up and down the country to provide good quality services and raise awareness of recycling to the general public.”
