Speaking earlier this month to Steve Eminton, editor of letsrecycle.com, Mr Hunt said that 2013 was something of a transition year, which was made more challenging because of the uncertainty of the WEEE regulations.
And, he highlighted that commodity prices across the board have softened and that this has impacted on the business at a time when many customers are also looking to reduce their waste costs.
I see this as a challenge across the whole waste management sector. Customers are becoming aware that recyclable materials can have a value and they are asking rebates. We can build in rebates to a degree but if the cake gets smaller then you as the waste business also get a smaller proportion of the cake.
WasteCare operates in a range of markets from providing waste services to major retailers through to WEEE and silver recycling.
Mr Hunt also spoke of the importance of handling WEEE correctly and explained that the company is growing its reuse activities within the UK and on a number of products is now offering a one-year guarantee.
