IWM Wessex group to cover range of topics at February meeting

The newly-formed Wessex New Generation Group is to hold an inaugural meeting open to all interested in recycling and waste management on February 28.

The group, set up under the auspices of the Institute of Waste Management aims to provide an opportunity for “those people interested, working or studying in the field of waste management and related areas, to get together”. Group activities are organised by a committee of members from various waste management backgrounds, with assistance when necessary from the IWM South West Centre Council.

Meeting organiser, Tessa Bowering at the Environment Agency, said: “The group aims to introduce career opportunities in waste management, network with educational establishments, raise the profile of the waste industry and promote the work of the IWM.”

The topic of the first meeting, which runs from 9.45 am to 4.00pm, will be waste legislation and includes a site visit and is free of charge for both members and non-members. The visit will be to the Whites Pit Landfill Site in Poole, Dorset and the morning session will include speakers on: IPPC, the Packaging Regulations, the Landfill Directive and the National Waste Strategy.

The venue is likely to be in the Dorset area and will be confirmed shortly. Anyone interested in attending is asked to contact Tessa Bowering as soon as possible, tel: 01258 483416, tessa.bowering@environment-agency.gov.uk.
