The incident occurred at around 1pm on the site at Optima Park last week (October 9).
Metropolitan Police confirmed that they were called following reports of a man injured.
“Officers attended alongside the London Ambulance Service and found a man, aged in his 20s, suffering head injuries,” the Police said in a statement.
“He was taken to a nearby hospital by air ambulance but sadly died of his injuries.”
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) said it is helping the police with its enquiries.
In a statement, Restore Datashred, which describes itself as one of the UKs leading supplier of confidential data destruction, said: “We can confirm that an agency worker working for Restore was involved in a fatal accident at our Crayford facility on Tuesday afternoon. The police and emergency services were in attendance and an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the incident.
“Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time.”

The site at Optima Park is a new facility for Restore Datashred – the company announced last month that it would be moving from its existing site in Crayford (see letsrecycle.com story). The facility was anticipated to be opened next week.
The company said that the site will measure 65,000 sq feet with a capability of shredding upwards of 500+ tonnes a week to help the company service its 40,000 customers.
