She becomes of executive director of Waste Watch following the departure of Ray Georgeson to be policy director for the Waste and Resources Action Programme.
For the past 18 months Ms Herridge has been working from the Waste Watch offices as co-ordinator of the National Waste Awareness Initiative and since December she has been acting executive director of Waste Watch. Prior to these posts she worked for UK Waste, now owned by Biffa.
Established in 1987, Waste Watch
is funded by the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions, its membership and business sponsors. It provides educational projects, information, consultancy, publications, training events, campaigning and advocacy for all sectors.
The position of executive director is seen as important, especially because Waste Watch is highly regarded by both government and industry. Ms Herridge's predecessor, Ray Georgeson, was seconded to the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions for several months to help shape the waste strategy.
