The acquisition will see Greenstar move ahead with its expansion plans while James Donaldson, founder and managing director of WES, keeps a stake in the business and continues his role as managing director.
”Over the coming months Greenstar will further develop and invest in the existing infrastructure at WES’s Wilton site. This will result in WES becoming a major provider of plastic recycling services to both the consumer and industrial markets.”“
Ian Wakelin
Redcar-based WES was formed in 1990 as a company finding markets for recyclables. It deals mainly in plastics but also chemicals and packaging waste compliance and has a 5m turnover, employing 45 people.
Mr Donaldson said: “The investment of Greenstar in WES will accelerate the next stage in the development of our business. There is a strong strategic fit between Greenstar and WES, and we look forward to exploiting the opportunities available to us.”
The acquisition is the latest step in Greenstar's business expansion across the UK
Early last year, Bicester-based Materials Recovery Ltd rebranded as Greenstar, and in the summer of 2006 bought Sawbridgeworth-based company, Wastelink Services Ltd, and Lancashire-based R U Recycling Ltd. (see lets recycle.com story).
Greenstar's Managing Director Ian Wakelin says “the investment in WES is a significant step in the development of the Greenstar business”.
He added: “WES is a well established recycling business and has been operating successfully in the UK for the past ten years focusing primarily on the recycling of plastics.”
