Mr Workman is set to join the Swindon-based Confederation of Paper Industries (CPI) in April, where he will take over the role of director general from Dr Martin Oldman – who is set to retire later this year.

The CPI represents 265 members across 60 companies drawn from papermakers, tissue manufacturers, corrugated packaging producers and recovered paper merchants.
Mr Workman had held the position of director general at British Glass since 2001, a role which involved lobbying government through parliamentary groups on behalf of glass producers. And, between 2004 and 2009, Mr Workman was also president of the glass industry's European umbrella body, CPIV.
During his tenure, Mr Workman has also engaged with the glass recycling sector and been vocal on topics such as the need to provide an adequate capture rate for clear cullet (see letsrecycle.com story).
Commenting on his appointment, Mr Workman said: “I am very excited by the challenges that this new role presents. All sectors of manufacturing face similar issues which need to be dealt with through a recognised trade association and the CPI is already acknowledged as a very professional body, largely due to the excellent team that Martin Oldman has assembled over the years.
“I look forward to working with them in order to raise the profile of all paper related sectors and to providing additional added value to the members.”
