Former Viridor director to replace Repic’s Morton

Dr Morton is retiring from the Manchester-based organisation at the end of the year, having been at the helm of Repic since it was established in April 2004.

During his 12 years at Repic he has been an influential member of the producer compliance scheme community in the UK and in Europe. Dr Morton also serves as a board member of the pan-European compliance scheme body WEEE Europe, a role that he will continue to fulfil following his departure from Repic.

He was involved in the debate around the WEEE Regulations prior to 2014, which Dr Morton argued had inflated the cost of WEEE compliance for producers of electrical goods. Prior to joining Repic – Dr Morton had been managing director of Cleanaway’s technical waste division.

Commenting on his departure, Dr Morton said: “Repic is a special company with many dedicated people. I have been CEO for over 12 years and I believe this is the right time for a new leader to take over. In making this decision it has been important to me that the changeover is a smooth transition and continuity of service remains.”

Mr Burrows-Smith will take up his post from 3 October. His name will be familiar to the wider waste sector, following a stint at waste and recycling firm Viridor, where he served as the company’s northern regional director between 2007 and 2011 and then as operations director until June 2015, when he left to become chief executive of Irish waste firm Greenstar.

‘Standing’

In a statement, Repic said that Mr Burrows-Smith’s “knowledge and standing in the industry, together with his network into both national and local government will ensure that Repic continues to be a major, progressive force in the WEEE industry.” Mr Bokhari added: “The board has had the time to conduct a full and proper process to manage this important transition and is confident that Mark’s wealth of experience and leadership qualities will see him ideally placed to sustain, build and capitalize on the significant progress made over the years.”

Repic’s members include many of the major producers of electronic goods to sell to the UK market, including Dualit, Dyson, Hoover Candy, Kenwood, Sharp, Toshiba and Whirlpool.
