Former Valpak chief emerges as favourite to take on advisory role

John Turner, who recently retired from his post as chief executive of Valpak, the UK's largest packaging waste compliance scheme could soon take up a senior advisory post for the government.

The Department of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs has an Advisory Committee on Packaging which had been chaired by Sir Peter Parker. Valpak today confirmed that Mr Turner is leaving the organisation after finishing a handing over period with new chief exeuctive Jonson Cox.

It is thought that Mr Turner would welcome the ACP post as it would give him the chance to work with industry and in particular the manufacturing sector where he held senior posts before joining Valpak.

Mr Turner has held strong views on the need for the current packaging system to work and has long argued that the UK system is very competitive compared to other EU states. However, he is also thought to recognise that some modifications may be needed.
