Suez Recycling and Recovery UK has begun rolling out a fully integrated fleet safety platform across its UK vehicle operations, following the award of a nationwide contract to Fleetclear.

The move follows a tender process, with Suez selecting Fleetclear’s system.

Dave Shaw, Head of Fleet at Suez, said: “We went out to tender and Fleetclear came out as the clear winner with their fully integrated system.

“It’s much easier now to pull together the information we need, which means we can properly analyse the performance of our vehicles and use the information to improve safety and enhance service delivery.”

One of the first deployments of the new system has taken place within the fleet managed on behalf of Milton Keynes City Council, where Suez delivers collection and street cleansing services.

Vehicles within this contract have been fitted with the integrated technology as part of an initial rollout phase.

Shaw added: “The transition at Milton Keynes has been executed very well with minimal disruption to operations.

“We received the new fleet of vehicles at the depot and Fleetclear came in en-masse to fit the equipment over a few weeks.”

Suez operates around 1,700 vehicles in the UK, supporting activities across hundreds of sites and handling approximately 11 million tonnes of waste materials each year.

The platform brings together multiple safety and operational systems into a single interface, enabling improved data visibility and analysis.

Suez said that this will allow it to better monitor vehicle performance and identify opportunities to improve both safety standards and operational efficiency.

Alongside the core system, Suez is also trialling additional Fleetclear technologies, including the Live Lane Information System (LLIS).

This AI-enabled technology detects oncoming traffic in adjacent live lanes and provides alerts to operatives, aiming to reduce the risk of collisions during roadside activities.

Shaw said: “The team at Fleetclear are easy to deal with and very collaborative.

“We want to work with them to engage with new technologies such as AI to help us further enhance our safety and our performance.”
