The awards recognise the achievements and hard work of local authority recycling officers and their colleagues over the past year. Winners will be announced at a presentation dinner at the East Midlands Conference Centre in Nottingham on October 16, following the first day of the annual LARAC conference.

The 2013 finalists include recycling officers from the Scottish borders, Croydon and Essex, as well as communications campaigns from Surrey, Lewisham and the West London Waste Authority.
In the Best New Idea category entries aimed at driving up WEEE recycling in their respective districts were chosen as finalists by the judges from South Norfolk and Cherwell district council, while a nappy recycling initiative carried out by Cheshire West and Chester council was also recognised.
‘Quality’
Commenting on the entries for 2013, LARAC chair Joy Blizzard, said: LARAC Members again upped the quality of their award entries this year. There were so many inspirational projects, ideas and people and this resulted in the usual robust and sometimes lengthy discussions among the judges. The resulting shortlist does LARAC members proud. Even those that didn’t make the shortlist are so good that we will be looking to put them on the LARAC website as case studies.
