MP to embark on fellowship with FCC Environment

FCC Environmentis based in Northampton and formerly traded as Waste Recycling Group (WRG) and Focsa Services.

Organised by the Industry and Parliament Trust (IPT), the fellowship will include discussions with staff and tours of FCC Environments recycling and treatment facilities as well as a visit to a specialist waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) recycling facility.

The MP for Southport will also visit FCC Environment sister company .A.S.A. Group sites in Austria and Slovakia to examine recycling infrastructure and consider the future of the sector in central and eastern Europe.

The IPT is a charity which provides a platform of engagement between UK parliamentarians and businesses. Since it was formed in the 1970s, it has organised fellowships for around 500 parliamentarians in a broad range of business sectors. Fellowships typically consist of 18 days of placement over an 18-24 month period.

Dan Rogerson, Liberal Democrat MP for North Cornwall, completed an IPT fellowship with FCC Environment (formerly Waste Recycling Group) in 2012. Previous fellowships in the waste sector have also been offered by United Utilities.

Commenting on the fellowship, Mr Pugh said: The green sector is vital to the UK economy and creates jobs so Im interested to observe how a waste management company such as FCC Environment operates. It was great to talk to an international company that are at the forefront of the modern recycling industry an industry which has both a huge potential and is of major social importance.

FCC Environment buys first dedicated JCB waste handler

FCC Environment has invested in vehicle manufacturer JCBs first ever dedicated waste materials handler.

The Js20MH has rolled off production lines and gone straight into service at FCCs refuse derived fuel (RDF) facility in Costessey, Norwich. Already, FCC has ordered a 2nd JS20MH due for delivery in the next few weeks.

According to JCB, the JS20MH has a newly designed chassis featuring a centralised slew turret offering increased 360 stability over conventional wheeled excavators making it ideal for companies like FCC Environment.

David Simpson, head of fleet and plant for FCC Environment, said: We chose this new JCB materials handler to pre-sort and load the feedstock waste at the input end of the RDF production process more effectively. The machines ability to selectively sort the feedstock material prior to loading, and also achieve the desired production rate, set it apart from the other material handlers on the market. The long reach and high rise cab make this machine ideally suited for this type of handling operation.

The FCC Environment RDF facility sits alongside an existing materials recycling facility (MRF) on the Norwich site. RDF from the facility will be transported to EfW facilities in Europe where there is currently surplus capacity.

FCC appoints new chair and chief executive

The Spanish parent company of UK waste and recycling firm FCC Environment has announced that it is entering a new era with the appointment of a new chief executive and chair.

Global infrastructure and environmental services firm FCC has named Esther Alcocer Koplowitz as its new chair and Juan Bjar Ochoa as executive vice-chairman and chief executive, it was announced last week (January 31).

Ms Koplowitz, 39,is only the second woman to chair an IBEX company in Spain and has previously served as director of FCC Environment in the UK. To date, Ms Koplowitz has served as second vice-chair of the FCC board.

She is the daughter of businesswoman Esther Koplowitz Romero de Juseu, one of Spain’s wealthiest women, who will continue in her role as first vice-chairman on the FCC board of directors.

Ms Koplowitz takes over the role following Baldomero Falcones Jaquotot’s resignation as chairman and chief executive. Mr Falcones will now chair the FCC Foundation.

Madrid-born Mr Ochoa joined the FCC Group in 2009. Previous to this, he spearheaded the acquisition of British Airports Authority (BAA) while he was chief executive of infrastructure at Spanish firm the Ferrovial Group. He also moved to London in June 2007 to take charge of Citigroup Infrastructure Management Company.
