Fatality at Manchester skip firm after vehicle collision

A 42-year-old man died after colliding with an excavator vehicle at an industrial estate on Outram Road, Dukinfield, a Greater Manchester Police (GMP) spokesperson has said.

The spokesperson told letsrecycle.com that officers were called to reports of a concern for welfare of a man on an industrial estate on Outram Road, Dukinfield on 3 March at around 10.50 am. They explained that emergency services attended the scene, and a 42-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Initial enquiries suggest that the male victim was working onsite at an industrial estate when a excavator vehicle collided with the victim. When emergency services arrived at the scene the man was sadly pronounced deceased,” the GMP spokesperson outlined.

According to the spokesperson, a 33-year-old – the driver of the vehicle – was arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter and was taken to custody for further questioning and subsequently released under investigation.

Investigation

They concluded that an investigation with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has been launched to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

Commenting, a HSE spokesperson told letsrecycle.com: “We are aware of this incident and are investigating.”

The deceased man is understood to have been working for AMP NW which describes itself on its website as “a family run business that has grown steadily over the years into the Northwest’s leading skip, tipper & grab hire specialists”. The company has been contacted for comment.

Local and national media reports referenced social media posts which identified the deceased as John Graveson (see Daily Mirror).
